School Visit

School visits to Charmouth Dorset, just £3 per student*

Evolution is now part of the Primary National Curriculum in the UK

Guided fossil hunting walks for your class. Chris will take up to 2 classes at a time . Cost is £3.00 per child and adult helpers (max of 5 helpers per 30 children 6:1) go free. *Min.booking £80. Walks take 2 hours including a 20 minute talk. Walks and talks take place on the beach.

Chris talks about understanding fossils and life in the past, what a fossil is, how they got there, what they are made of, geological time, time before humans, rocks and minerals, dinosaurs and other fossils. How ideas change with new evidence, evolution and Mary Anning. Chris is a geologist( B.Sc.) with 18 years experience of taking children fossil hunting . All walks are risk assessed and copies are available for schools. Your class remains your responsibility during the visit. Chris was formerly Earth Science Advisor for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and prior to that Senior Warden at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre. Fossilwalks.com is a private enterprise and is no longer connected with Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre or it's activities at Charmouth.

Most suitable for Year 3 and up but years 2 and 1 are welcome.. Exchange students welcome. State and private schools, Qualified teaching staff must be present.

Please note these visits and rates are NOT available for informal after school clubs or groups with a large number of adults or at weekends. They should book a normal group fossil walk at the normal rate.

Facilities for day trips

Charmouth Beach has public toilets and a picnic area.

Coach parking is at the West Dorset car park half way down Lower Sea Lane, where there are also toilets.

Cancellation terms

In the event of the hirer wishing to cancel this contract agreement for any reason,

A cancellation fee of not less than 50% of the agreed fee will be due if the cancellation is within fourteen days of the walk.

A cancellation fee of not less than 75% of the agreed fee will be due if the cancellation is within seven days of the walk.

The whole of the agreed fee will be due if cancellation is within 24 hours of the walk.
